Irises Vase
Inspired by a visit to Tokyo’s Nezu Museum, this vase brings together two encounters with the iris: the living flowers lining the banks of a garden stream, and Kōrin Ogata’s celebrated Irises screen.
A Japanese National Treasure inspired by The Tales of Ise, the screen transforms poetry into a bold, decorative celebration of the natural world. With sketchbook and pencil in hand, I found my own inspiration in the irises growing alongside the water.
Seam-raised, the vase is applied with chased irises, their forms brought to life through the gentle relief of the metal.
